Count the steps it can remove
A contract packet with information on both sides is a good example of where the GX7020’s scanner can matter. Single-pass duplex capture reduces the need to turn and reorder originals manually. Estimate how many such jobs arrive in a normal month. If the answer is almost none, the upgrade is less compelling; if they arrive daily, scanning automation may be more valuable than a small difference in printing supplies.
Three paper paths need discipline
Two cassettes and a rear tray provide a combined 600-sheet input capacity under Canon’s stated conditions. They can also separate common paper stocks. Label the intended contents and create corresponding presets so staff can select the right path without opening the machine. Extra capacity is useful when predictable; it is wasteful if one person changes stock while another sends a client document to an assumed tray.
Make shared scanning dependable
Agree on file naming, destinations and access permissions before the printer becomes the office archive gateway. Scan a representative document and confirm that page order and legibility survive the complete process. Hardware duplex support removes one kind of handling but does not establish the quality of every digital record. Someone should remain responsible for checking important originals before destroying or filing them elsewhere.
Our office recommendation
Choose the GX7020 when regular color documents, duplex capture and multiple paper supplies are all real requirements. Compare the smaller GX6020 when those extras would be seldom used. Our verdict analyzes the manufacturer’s published configuration; it is not a hands-on office deployment. We have not independently measured operating costs, scan accuracy, printing speed or long-term reliability, and regional supplies and warranty details still require confirmation.
