The quick take

Keep the paper path tidy and let diagnostic output guide any maintenance.

Keep paper and the feed path ready

Use flat, clean paper of a supported type. Set the guides against the stack without bending it, and stay below the tray’s fill line. Keep loose objects away from open trays and close them when the model’s instructions recommend it.

Diagnose before cleaning

When text streaks or a color disappears, check the paper setting and print a diagnostic page. Use the cleaning tool for the exact model, inspect the result and continue only if the problem remains. Cleaning cycles use ink; they are not a routine way to improve an already good page.

Use the intended shutdown sequence

Use the printer’s power button and wait for shutdown before disconnecting power. This lets the printer complete its parking process. For extended storage or a move, use the manufacturer’s instructions rather than applying a general cleaning or transport trick.
