Upgrade to remove a regular bottleneck, then check the total cost of the exact model.
Name the interruption you want to remove
An upgrade is easiest to judge when it solves a repeated task. Count how often you reload paper, flip two-sided pages or place originals on the scanner. Use that list to compare the features of a basic home model and a document-focused office model.
Compare the exact configurations
An office family name does not guarantee every function. Check for automatic print duplex, scan duplex, Ethernet and fax separately. Compare normal ISO speeds rather than mixing a draft claim on one product with a normal-quality claim on another.
Allow for the supplies
Separate color cartridges can be useful when one color runs out first, but they do not establish a lower running cost by themselves. Compare the price and stated yield of each model’s replacement supplies before paying more for the printer.
