The quick take

Keep supplies sealed and identifiable, and check the local recycling route before disposal.

Keep unopened supplies in their packaging

Leave cartridges sealed until installation and store them within the conditions stated on the package or in the model’s guidance. Keep the supply number visible so a similar-looking cartridge is not confused with the one your printer actually needs.

Handle installed ink carefully

Avoid removing a working cartridge simply to check it. When replacement is required, follow the printer’s procedure and avoid touching nozzles or electrical contacts. Refillable bottles need their own storage instructions; do not transfer ink into an unlabeled container.

Check recycling by country and item

Use the manufacturer’s local recycling page to check which supplies are accepted and how they should be packaged. Mail-back and drop-off options vary by location. If a program is unavailable, ask your local waste service about an appropriate collection route.
