The quick take

Supported paper and the matching driver setting are a pair. Check both before printing.

Start with the supported media list

Check the exact paper size, type and weight limits for the relevant tray. A printer that accepts photo paper may not accept every card stock or specialty coating. Keep separate limits for the main tray, photo tray and automatic duplex path in mind.

Match the surface to the result

Plain paper is practical for everyday text. Coated inkjet media can suit photos or presentation work when the printer supports it. Select the matching paper type in the print dialog so the printer applies the intended ink settings.

Store and load it carefully

Keep paper flat, clean and protected from moisture. Load the correct printable side according to the package and printer instructions, then align the guides without squeezing the stack. Test a single sheet of unfamiliar supported media before buying or printing a large quantity.
