Borderless printing is not supported, so this is a poor match for someone buying mainly for edge-to-edge album photographs. Color illustrations and school materials are a different requirement; confirm the intended paper type and printable margins before planning a craft project.
Keep the supply decision proportionate
A black-and-tri-color cartridge system makes the replenishment list short. Its consequence is that the three colors are replaced together rather than separately. Print preview and an appropriate everyday quality setting can help avoid wasting ink on unusable pages.
Compare replacement supply costs before purchase, especially if the household’s volume is likely to grow. Read any HP+ or ink-subscription conditions independently from the hardware decision, rather than letting a temporary bundled offer determine years of use.
A good fit has clear boundaries
Choose the 4255e when occasional printing and a small scanning stack describe the real week. Allow room behind and in front of the unit for the active paper path, and confirm that every household device has a supported connection method.
Move toward an ENVY model if automatic duplex or photo formats are central, and toward OfficeJet if documents become a daily business task. The 4255e is easier to recommend when its limitations are accepted deliberately instead of discovered during a deadline.
