A focused brief can be better
The HL-L2460DW does one job: producing black-and-white documents. That focus is attractive for letters, reading packs and routine office files when a phone or separate scanner already handles capture. Review the documents you actually need in color before making the switch. A chart that relies on several colored lines may need redesigning, while an occasional family photograph can remain a separate outsourced task.
Make duplex part of the routine
Automatic two-sided printing is the useful convenience for long PDFs and reports. Save a default document preset with the appropriate page handling and check a short proof before sending a large pack. The 250-sheet tray can reduce refills, but it still needs the correct guides and suitable stock. Capacity is not permission to fill above the marked limit or mix incompatible paper types in one stack.
Toner is not the whole supply plan
Brother lists toner and a separate drum unit. Include both in the ownership comparison, using the correct regional supplies and their stated yields as estimates rather than promises for every page. A separate drum can remain in place across toner changes, but it is not a lifetime component. Keep that future replacement visible in the budget instead of treating each toner cartridge as the total maintenance cost.
Our buying recommendation
Shortlist the HL-L2460DW when text documents dominate and both duplex and network sharing have a purpose. Compare a multifunction model if copying is an everyday requirement rather than an occasional exception. This assessment uses Brother’s exact-model specifications and independent workflow analysis. We have not measured print quality, warm-up behavior, real-document throughput or long-term reliability, so the manufacturer’s maximum speed is not presented as a timed result.
