The missing duplex is the decision
Brother’s specifications explicitly list no automatic duplex printing. For a short one-sided form, that may make no difference at all. For lecture notes or a long report, it introduces handling that a duplex model can remove. Use your most common file as the comparison case. A small purchase-price difference can be less relevant than a step you must repeat each time the same job appears.
Keep the role intentionally narrow
The HL-L2405W is best understood as a black-document output point, not the household’s complete paper-management system. Decide how copying and scanning will happen before buying it. A phone may cover occasional forms, while bound documents or a large archive may deserve a separate scanner. The right combination depends on tasks, not on an assumption that every desktop printer must include every function.
Budget toner and drum together
This model uses a toner cartridge and a separate drum. Record both supply families and compare local replacement availability with the exact regional printer. Starter supplies and replacement yields are not necessarily the same. For a light user, purchase cost may dominate ownership; for repeated work, later replenishment matters more. Avoid using a maximum page yield as though it establishes the cost of your specific documents.
Our recommendation
Choose the HL-L2405W for a deliberately simple, mainly one-sided monochrome routine. Compare the HL-L2460DW if automatic duplex or Ethernet would remove a recurring inconvenience. Our judgment is based on the published configuration rather than experience with a physical test unit. We have not independently measured speed, print density, wireless reliability or operating cost, and we do not imply that a simpler feature set guarantees fewer service problems.
